Matjaž Kramar is a passionate winemaker who runs the winery with his wife Katja, both with an artistic background: Matjaž is a sculptor, while Katja is a painter. The name “Atelier Kramar” derives from their artistic vocation.
Atelier Kramar is located in the western part of the Brda just over the Italian border, in an area surrounded by forests.
In 2003, after moving to Brda Region, they started producing wine, inspired by the winemakers that surround this hill.
They started producing a small amount of wine, with just 800 vines. From then on, they have grown year after year, albeit remaining a small entity with five hectares, 15000 vines and 10000 bottles a year. Small production with great attention to quality.

The varieties of wine they produce are Rebula, Tokaj Friulano and Merlot. In the beginning, Matjaž experimented long macerations, one month for the Rebula and even six months for the Merlot. But over the years, Matjaž kept only two days of maceration as, with long macerations, the tannin tended to be too high and the merlot needed to settle in barrels for at least five years to soften them.

If you want to break the mould, you need to be independent, intuitive, instinctive and start making the wine in the vineyard.

Atelier Kramar - Bohem (Tokaj Friulano 95%, Malvazija 5%): 3 days of maceration, the colour is pale yellow. The nose offers honey, lemon and peaches. The palate is complex with spices, herbs and wildflowers flavours. The finish is long with a subtle mineral backbone.
Food Pairing: Cold appetizers, Braised Rabbit.

Atelier Kramar - Primario (Ribolla Gialla 99%, Pinot Blanc 1%): 3 days of maceration, the colour is light orange. On the nose fruit hints of dried apricot, sweet spices and pears. The palate is mineral with a nice tannin structure and a great acidity. The finish is mineral, salty and briny.
Food Pairing: Roast Goose, Grilled Salmon.
