Blazic

Nature friendly wine production on the Slovenian-Italian border.

2)Borut Blažic talking about his wines.

The history of Blažič vinery was conditioned by the geopolitical situation after World War II. In 1948, Borut Blažič’s father ended up having the house in Yugoslavia and the vineyard in Italy, causing serious difficulty to work the land. Life was therefore tough back then. Nowadays, Borut Blažič runs his winery along with his wife Simona.

He started macerating wines in 2000, inspired by Josko Gravner and Stanko Radikon and from 2000 to 2004 he produced only skin-contact wines but selling them in the Slovenian market was not easy. Since 2004, he has been producing orange wines with long maceration along with more conventional white wines with just 2 days of maceration, and a few reds. He works organically, the only addictive that is used is a small amount of sulphur.
The three orange wines produced by Blažič are Rebula, Jakot and a blend called Blaž. The production is about 30000 bottles a year.
Slovenia is the main market, especially fine dining restaurants. Borut also exports his wines abroad: in London, it is possible to taste them at the Riding Wine Bar

The location of the farm itself really characterized us. New state borders after World War II divided it between two countries. The border was guarded and not easily crossed. It took great perseverance, hard work and dedication of our parents, Ferdinand and Danica, whose merit is that the farm is still standing and continues the story.
